Menswear shows at New York Fashion Week from Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger featured warming winter jackets complete with classic tailoring and chunky knitwear.
Tommy Hilfiger has extended its preppy staple with its latest menswear collection, which Hilfiger has categorised as “indie prep”. The new collection adds a slightly unruly edge to the brand’s traditional preppy look, with items including suits with cargo detailing, military elements added to shearing and blue blazers teamed with cashmere sweatpants. Chunky knits were prevalent underneath blazers and coats, with outerwear including bomber jackets, macs and toggle coats.
Calvin Klein creative director Italo Zucchelli played with shapes in his autumn 11 menwear collection. Pieces such as extra-padded nylon coats, wool bomber jackets and wide-legged trousers gave bulky silhouettes. Tailoring was also key to the collection with tuxedo jackets and smart suits. The colour palette was predominantly made up of shades of grey with splashes of bright blue and red.
