New York Fashion Week: Tommy Hilfiger scores 30th anniversary touchdown

Predicting trends from the all American sportswear celebration straight from the #NYFW catwalk.

Tommy Hilfiger celebrated his eponymous label’s 30 year heritage with an autumn 15 show called ‘An American Love Story’. Like many of his previous womenswear collections, his latest offering was an ode to all things preppy, sporty and chic in the USA.

Set in a make-shift American football ground complete with Astroturf and touchdown score board, models took to the Hilfiger pitch in a smart school-uniform palette of deep maroon red, navy blue and camel shades, with lashings of signature Hilfiger check and tartan.

The key parts of the collection focused on wearable collegiate looks made up of long cardigans complete with varsity team logos, deep V-neck jumpers or oversized cable knits layered with DB pea coats, toggled duffels or collared capes.

Sporty satin bomber jackets and girly cheerleader-inspired kick pleat dresses and skirts lent a feminine feel, topped with furry and shaggy coats – a fabric trend lending a cosy feel to this season’s New York shows.
