Oscar de la Renta continued in his well-rehearsed love for all things glamorous and ladylike. Pretty in pink (and blue), the collection was a riot of colour with just a dash of black. In addition to teal green and paprika red, powder blue and pink lightened the mood with an air of the 1950s, which was highlighted by the neat matching headbands. Embellishment was seen throughout – it was more a case of what wasn’t adorned with jewels than what was; gems were used extensively to trim hemlines and line collars when not used on luxurious fabrics. Silhouettes spanned the 1920s, 1950s and 1960s as dropped waists sat with full skirts and shifts. For de la Renta, it’s less about eras and more about going big with colour and decoration. Perfect for the red carpet, and sure to influence the mood of the eveningwear market next season.
