Paris Fashion Week: Celine

Showing during the snazziest week on the circuit, it would be quite easy for the cool, calm collection Phoebe Philo presented to be overshadowed by more shouty affairs.

But it was testament to how well constructed, intriguing and modern the collection was that it stood
out as the week’s most stylish. Clean and neat, it was classic Céline, boasting the oversized fluidity Philo has made the house’s signature. But the pieces took a more sculptural form as the Brit played with textural textiles to create an almost cosy feel - so much so the knotted sleeves literally wrapped up the models. But this was no sterile exercise in restraint - the familiar laundry bag check pepped up the muted tones and added another facet to the visual oddness Philo’s construction created.

In short Philo’s deft combination of clean minimalism and fabric maximalism made for the sort of creative, covetable and commercial collection she’s famous for.
