Paris Fashion Week: Saint Laurent

If the internet wags are to be believed, this, Hedi Slimane’s second women’s ready-to-wear line for Saint Laurent, was a Zara-in-very-expensive-sheep’s-clothing.

The Cali-grunge look is a well-worn one for Slimane, so it was a shame to see him showing it again, despite the positivity of his front row cheerleaders. Cutting to the chase, this mix of slouchy cardis, cutesy florals, shaggy coats and bowed collars will undoubtedly sell well and will be produced on a luxury level unattainable by the high street, but the lack of inspiration doesn’t give the lift great fashion does.

In short Clothes, not fashion, might be the order of the day at Saint Laurent but we need to see more progression, more excitement from Slimane.
