Autumn 11

The look Miuccia Prada took everything kitsch and bad taste about the 1960s but made it minimal and modern.

Key pieces Tailored suit jackets were oversized and boxy with exaggerated wide-cut sleeves, while trousers were tapered and cut above the ankle or cropped just below the knee. Square-cut, 1960s-style polo shirts and twin sets had a narrow turtle neck. Elsewhere, there were zip-up track tops and viscose jogging bottoms, and suede commuter coats.

Colours Winter darks including claret, plum and racing green; metallic parrot green, magenta and peach; tan and cigarillo browns and heavy use of matt black.

Commercial appeal The 1960s styles chime well with the 1970s trend in womenswear, and the minimalist treatment makes them wearable. A green glitter, high-necked jersey was too space age.
