Stella McCartney

A autumn 11 collection that played with voluminous proportions and which emphasised shoulders.

The look Stella McCartney reinforced the polka-dot trend for autumn 11 in a collection that played with voluminous proportions and which emphasised shoulders.

Key pieces The opening piece was an oversized wool dress, in black with long, hook-like sleeves. Then came the clean lines and minimalism with demure panelled dresses in a creamy palette. Chunky knit jumpers were a standout this season and rather than the fur and feathers that have been so dominant elsewhere, it was chunky knits, teamed with wide-leg trousers which added texture.

Commercial appeal There were clean, boxy silhouettes and oversized proportions - which we have come to expect from McCartney - but, as last season with her tropical fruit prints, she tapped into some ultra-commercial design elements like sweetheart necklines and polka-dot appliqué.
