Stella McCartney

Autumn 12

If you didn’t know Stella McCartney has designed the British team’s Olympic outfits before her autumn 12 show, you were left in no doubt of her sporting credentials come the finale. While not a full-on exercise in track and field fashion, the final looks hammered home the influence this year’s huge sporting event had on her collection, with fun, sporty short tweed dresses closing the show in the chicest of team colours. Before the final whistle blew on Stella’s strips, the British designer’s padded hips (a detail Paris’s designers jumped on this season), vivid blue and bold jacquards all worked well, the curvaceous knitted dresses and mannish tailoring proving to be the leaders of an at times pumped-up and punchy line-up. The pleated, slouchy trousers and oversized woven biker jackets will also be autumn winners. Gold medal.
