Autumn 12

Folkloric styles and native dress codes inspired design duo Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli’s beautifully elegant collection that merged the worlds of quirky craft and luxury couture. They opened with looks trimmed with macramé seams, toughening up the Valentino girl in head-to-toe sexy black leather. Then came outerwear finished with delicate frogging and a floor-length coat that looked like an exotic oriental carpet, modernised with a sleek leather panel. Key shapes included A-line coats and slim dresses that finished on the knee and were often full sleeved, featuring chic scalloped edges and delicate embroideries. The full-length evening looks were equally subtle but stunning in their detail, with the flattering sheer-sleeved styles sure to be a hit on the red carpet and high street alike, particularly for the more mature shopper.
