Yves Saint Laurent

Spring 12

The look Elegant eveningwear with a sporty twist.

Key pieces High-neck blouses contrasted with plunging necklines on maxi dresses and halterneck scarf tops. Ladylike peplum-hem skirts added movement to silhouettes as did ruffles on sleeveless tops. Jackets were important with boxy shapes manifesting in a cape-style coat and a three quarter-length overcoat. Prints played a part on printed maxi skirts and dresses, forming a contrast with crisp white knee-length styles.

Colours Shrub greens, slate grey, midnight blue and aubergine.

Commercial appeal Summing up the modern femininity seen across the Paris shows, this was a very sophisticated collection with neat separates and tulip-sheath dresses that looked good commercially, as did the A-line and trapeze coats.
