Anna Lee, De Montfort University
A melee of dragon-inspired motifs printed onto velvet tabards, draped, silky tops and oversized flowing kaftans made up Anna Lee’s signature look.
Fiery oranges, yellows and burnt reds contrasted with aquatic shades of turquoise and tropical sea blue on shapes which took emphasis away from the body’s natural curves to put the focus solely on the statement prints. Subtle gold beading added an extra sparkle.
“I picked the winner because the collection was theatrical and inspirational with amazing colour and great attention to detail,” said designer and GFW judge Zandra Rhodes.
Hilary Alexander, fashion editor of the Daily Telegraph and GFW judge, said: “So many of the graduate pieces could go straight into boutiques. I really liked Anna Lee’s combination of print and fabrics, they were so colourful and passionate.
“What I would say however is that when a student is putting together a catwalk collection it has got to be consistent and cohesive, and designers must keep this in mind.”
