Autumn 10

The look

An abundance of occasionwear dresses will keep the core Coast customer happy, with plenty of detail including sheer décolletages and ruched chiffon on the top half and rosettes for the hip or shoulder.

Ruching and draping is key on dresses and separates, from jersey day dresses drawn in at the waist to ruched chiffon overlays and pin-tuck detail on bodices.

Bucking the trend for fur, Coast opts for feathers to decorate boleros, fringe dresses and skirts.

The palette is predominantly dark with plenty of black and midnight blue, but splashes of teal, purple and fuchsia inject colour.

Embellishment is mainly reserved for shoulder detail, with the texture trend coming through via velvet trims, lace over satin and ruffles.

Key pieces

  • Chartreuse duchess satin sweetheart-neckline dress
  • Camel wool coat
  • Black sleeveless dress with sheer décolletage

Right for the market?

As an occasionwear destination store, Coast does not disappoint for autumn 10. There are plenty of classic options, including duchess satin and silk chiffon strapless cocktail dresses, which sit alongside trend-led styles such as an assortment of saturated brights and asymmetric necklines. Fashion-wise, the product caters for a wide age group, but the focus remains on the 25-plus market due to the higher price points, which are reflected in the quality of fabric and finish.
