Belgian brand Essentiel has recruited a UK agent for the first time in five years after signing a deal with fashion agency Lucy Wernick.
The womenswear brand, which is headquartered in Antwerp, already has about seven UK accounts, including department store Fenwick, but has not been sold via a UK distributor since it left agent Palladio in 2007.
According to agency director Lucy Wernick, Essentiel has undergone significant changes since then, resulting in a more contemporary look.
“I see the brand sitting in contemporary womenswear floors in department stores and premium womenswear indies alongside the likes of Paul & Joe Sister and Helmut Lang,” she said.
Wernick hopes to attract 40 stockists for autumn 13 and will target premium indies such as Diverse in Islington, north London, and The Square in Bath, as well as luxury department store Harvey Nichols.
There are 140 styles in the autumn 13 collection. Wholesale prices range from £38 for a T-shirt up to £200 for a coat.
