A number of indies have axed women’s young fashion brand Hybrid due to quality issues in the spring 12 range.
Some indies told Drapers that Hybrid supplied a batch of dresses with faulty zips, leading them to turn their backs on it. The figure-hugging brand has been a favourite with female stars from reality show The Only Way is Essex.
One anonymous retailer said she had stopped stocking Hybrid six months ago due to a decline in quality: “We had loads of problems with the zips. For the money they were asking, it just wasn’t worth it.”
Another young fashion indie, which did not want to be named, dropped Hybrid ahead of autumn 12 for several reasons, including faulty stock and excessive discounting on rival websites.
“It’s a shame because they were nice styles and selling well,” she said.
According to a source close to Hybrid, “hundreds upon hundreds” of garments were affected.
However, a Hybrid spokeswoman said the brand had worked hard to rectify the issue, offering discounts and apologies to stockists. “If Hybrid had to give them a refund then they’ve done that, even if it’s put them at a loss. Hybrid wants to support those who have supported them,” she said.
The spokesperson added that the faults were limited to spring 12 stock.
