The sketches for Karl Lagerfeld’s first designs for Brazilian footwear brand Melissa have been revealed ahead of the launch of the autumn 13 collection.
The first of four collaborations to be rolled out over the next four seasons sees the designer take on plastic shoes for the first time. Melissa is known for its innovative use of jelly shoe designs, and has previously worked with designers including Vivienne Westwood.
Lagerfeld explained: “I had never worked with plastic in this way before. It’s not the classic technique, I am used to working with more traditional techniques for Fendi, Chanel and Lagerfeld shoes. My inspiration was the native country of the brand, celebrating the Brazilian “joie de vivre”.
Lagerfelds four designs include fun elements such an ice-cream cone heel, as well as a pared down style in a delicate pointed ballerina flat.
