High street preview: French Connection womenswear, autumn 18

Top trends from French Connection’s latest womenswear collection range from 1990s grunge to abstract florals via Studio 54.

There is a flavour of 1990s grunge in a mix and match of patterns and prints in oversized, slouchy shapes. Vintage ditsy florals prints cover delicate dresses, mixed with logo graphic tops and T-shirts, while patchworked plaids come on maxi-length shirt dresses. An abstract floral print, “Aventine”, adds interest to new silhouettes such as a draped skirt, a balloon-sleeve dress, wide, draped trousers and a patchworked shirt dress.

Studio 54-style party-ready sequins crop up here too, on flared suiting, midi- and maxi- skirts, and wide-sleeved mini-dresses, as well as more casual but equally dazzling sporty jackets.

Among the outerwear hero items are cropped puffa coats, classic military style pea coats, chunky shearling belted styles and eye-catching patchworked fake furs.
