GFW womenswear Award

marissa owen University of Central Lancashire

If you needed a strong contrast to Rory Langdon’s muted, commercial Gold Award collection, then Marissa Owen’s clashing prints were just the ticket. A huge, kimono-come-padded jacket with a bright floral print stole the show and led the way for a playful collection from a talented student pushing her creative boundaries.

With so many clashing prints - florals, stripes, checks - Owen’s collection had an almost patchwork-like effect, delivered with texture and draping.

The judges said she had “an intelligent concept that was playful, exuberant and beautifully executed in vibrant colours and print”. She was picked out as one to watch by top fashion journalist Hilary Alexander.
