DOMINIQUE KRAL Northbrook College

Dominique Kral’s collection blew Drapers away, with her bold mix of super-chunky knits and waist-accentuating body armour.

Cropped or long chunky cable-knit cardigans featured over body-skimming dresses or slim shirts and pencil skirts with cinched-in waists and pockets. Pretty, sheer, tight blouses with ruffled sleeves or chunky knits were worn under intimidating body-like armour or heavy corsetry. Skirts were also knitted.

The award demanded a directional and innovative collection created through original design in printed or constructed fabrics that explored the relationship between garment and textile. Kral ticked the boxes, delivering a “beautiful balance between prints, textures and colours resulting in a contemporary collection”, said the judges.
