High Street Preview Autumn 14: Asos Menswear

Silverlake continues spring 14’s sports trend with oversized tops and collegiate appliqué on jackets and blazers.

Future Sports meets street with a fashion spin inspired by the likes of Kanye West, featuring mesh and luxe fabrics like leather and suede, alongside marble prints on longer-line silhouettes.

“Aspirational styles are key and they have a formal feel but with a casual sensibility. Our skinny silhouette has been relaxed a little but it’s made a big difference. Key styles include the jogging-style trouser, which had 20 styles for autumn 13 but we’ve got 120 for autumn 14. We’ve even gone as far as doing a smart tailored version.”

  • John Mooney design director, Asos menswear

Bauhaus is a rich palette of claret, deep green and navy worked in colour-block panels mixed with op-art prints and dogstooth patterns.

Modernism updates wardrobe staples, with a focus on casual cuffed joggers in unexpected fabrics such as smart wool.

Portobello is a wintry outdoors trend with padded coats, cosy knitwear and reimagined checks and plaids.
