High street preview: Marks & Spencer womenswear autumn 15

After M&S reported a 1.2% increase in fashion sales for the 13 weeks to March 28, breaking its cycle of 14 consecutive quarters in decline, all eyes are on autumn 15 as an important season for the retailer.

Prominence falls on fabric, with leather and suede carrying over from spring and a focus on cashmere for winter, while bold use of colour, pattern and print makes for an adventurous range.

Retro references riff on the season’s top trend for all things decades past, with patterned outerwear including some bold animal-print options, alongside a 1970s suede trench coat and loose printed dresses with bohemian feel.

Dresses still appear, but there are also more separates for party and eveningwear, such as a velvet tuxedo and a lace-sleeved jumpsuit.
