Modern classic is a strong theme at Jigsaw, which has drawn heavily on its archives to revive staples such as tweed blazers and shearling gilets while updating them with touches such as quirky bright printed linings or chain details.
There is more design detail than in previous seasons, for instance ruffles are used on the back of smart pencil skirts and on the front of classic checked blouses.
Contrast fabrics are also key, with silk and cotton used together on dresses and tops, while soft silks and sheer vintage-print blouses are layered with extra chunky knitwear or heavy leather and shearling.

Right for the market?
Like many of the more classic womenswear retailers, Jigsaw has plundered its archives for autumn 10 to offer a strong heritage feel to the collection.
A capsule collection will even carry a new Jigsaw Vintage swing tag that will describe the history of each piece’s design.
Jigsaw is right to add more design detail and luxe fabrics to justify its prices, which border on premium. The retailer has also upped the number of higher-priced limited-edition pieces it produces in order to try to win more fans at the upper end of its target market.
