Little Mistress prepares for international charge

Women’s young fashion brand Little Mistress plans to significantly ramp up its international business over the next three years by expanding into new territories.

At present the brand is sold in the UK, Republic of Ireland and Spain, but it is aiming to extend its international reach to a total of eight countries. Consultant Anton Dell has been enlisted to help pair Little Mistress with overseas agents and distributors.

Managing director Mark Ashton said: “Turnover from international sales is only about 16% at the moment. Within three years, we want 80% of sales coming from international.”

Little Mistress is in negotiations with a German agent and is looking to sign various agents for Italy, Holland, Sweden and Switzerland. Ashton is also looking to expand into the US early next year.

The overseas expansion is aimed at continuing the company’s growth once UK distribution reaches a plateau, said Ashton. “We believe within the next six months we will have finished [expanding] in the UK,” he added. “In terms of key account business we are finished. In terms of indie business we’ve only got another 25% to go.”

Last month Little Mistress, which has 130 stockists in the UK and Ireland, hired agent Blu Stocking to help expand its indie distribution in the North and Scotland. Ashton said the brand was also looking at opening standalone UK stores.

Little Mistress is also collaborating with stylist Nick Ede to launch an exclusive online capsule collection, called Lovely Black Dress.
