Little Mistress hopes to significantly cut repeat-order waiting times with the opening of its UK factory this week.
The women’s young fashion brand will produce 15% to 20% of its collection at the south London factory.
Managing director Mark Ashton said he decided to manufacture in the UK because of the faster speed in getting products to market.
“We can really capitalise on repeat business and reduce risk for our customer,” he said. “We will be using special European fabrics and giving them the Little Mistress touch. We can have a decent quantity back on the shelves in 10 days.
“We’re proud to make this move and it’s good for many reasons. It’s vital to have full control of your production, so the only way is to open your own place. We will be constantly monitoring our delivery promises and quality.”
The factory opening came as Little Mistress announced it is to launch a separates line for spring 13 in response to customer demand. The range will comprise 20 pieces per month, including tops, trousers, jackets, skirts and printed denim. Wholesale prices will start from £10.
Ashton said: “We’ve had specific requests from most of our key partners to expand into this arena, so we’d be foolish not to deliver an offer.”
