Browns’ womenswear buying director Ida Petersson reveals her London Fashion Week diary, discussing the New York shows, the London collections she has loved and the trends to know so far this spring 18 season.
How were the New York Fashion Week shows this season?
I went to New York, but only for part of the week. I’m already excited about spring 18 and there are still two cities to go. Although I am personally a huge fan of sportswear, it’s great to see a return to femininity as I was longing to see something different. Pastels were everywhere - we saw several different shades of lilac and yellow and I really love this refreshing colour palette.
I loved Calvin Klein, specifically how designer Raf Simons translated his vision of Old America into the collection - he is a pure genius. Sies Marjan was another highlight for me. The mixture of pretty dresses and crinkled patent coats were insane.

Why do you attend London Fashion Week?
It’s so important for Browns to support home-grown, new and established talent. London is always full of creativity, and we come to support our current designers, but we also come in the hope of unearthing a new generation of talent.
How was today at London Fashion Week?
It’s been a great couple of days so far with good energy - it’s busy and fun.
What collections did you see today? What collections stood out?
Roksanda, Erdem, Huishan Zhang, Marques’Almeida, Sophia Webster, Christopher Kane, Emilia Wickstead, Ashish and Osman.

Roksanda was beautiful. I absolutely loved her draped tops and her gorgeous satin dresses. Marques’Almeida was also amazing. Those strappy trousers have to be mine. I personally wanted to buy half the show.
Have any other shows stood out so far this London season?
I am always so impressed with the talent that’s coming out of London. Ashish was my top show today. Everything was heartbreakingly beautiful. My favourites outside of today have been Ashley Williams, Burberry and Preen.

I also enjoyed Matty Bovan and I absolutely loved Molly Goddard’s show too. I love her tongue in cheek way of showing, it’s so fun and light and her dresses are incredible.
What trends have stood out so far in London?
Pastels were everywhere, as were block colours such as my personal favourite, fire engine red. We also saw a lot of flowy feminine dresses, ruffles and fringing. On the flip side, I’m obsessed with the neon pops of colour inspired by the Club Kids and the Cyberdog heydays that we saw at several of the shows.
