London Fashion Week: the buyer's view, day four

Harvey Nichols womenswear buyer Rebecca Tinker discusses the fourth day of LFW, including her collection highlights and trends to watch.

Rebecca Tinker

What do you come to LFW expecting to find?

Whilst sourcing new brands is always at the forefront of our minds as buyers, London Fashion Week is a chance for us to support our British brands. It’s also an opportunity to identify emerging trends and see first-hand how collections have evolved since pre-collections.

What did you think of today at LFW?

The mood feels spirited. I started today with Roksanda which was beautiful - it really set the bar high for the day ahead.

Which shows stood out?

Today I covered Roksanda, Erdem and Christopher Kane all of which stood out in their own individual way. At Roksanda there was more fluidity, almost a touch of sporty elements to the collection in terms of the movement of the garments. Lighter fabrics and blushed tones were paired with complementing caramels. It all felt very sweet for summer.

Christopher Kane had more attitude. There was an homage to the 1960s in the soundtrack, 3D flowers in the first story and torn out magazines strewn over dresses. There was a sense of cheekiness and an element of freedom in the way that garments were hinged together – barely there and almost undressed but with adornments.

Erdem brought in a theatrical element, as we have now come to expect from the designer’s show. Immediately the scene was set and we were transported into another era. The garments and the whole experience were truly enchanting.

Were there any emerging brands that have impressed you so far this season?

Brandon Maxwell in New York had a stand out show with an uplifting spirit. We’re very excited to be exclusively stocking the designer from autumn 16. It has been such a joy to see his collection evolve and his following grow.

Monse, also in New York, is a brand that has recently been catapulted into the limelight. The show was beautifully executed and I think it has affirmed its status as a brand to watch.

What trends stood out so far this season?

Blushed tones have been really strong, and we’ve spotted lots of pinks and reds being paired together. Stripes continue to dominate collections too.
