Austrian footwear brand Ludwig Reiter has opened its debut store in the UK - its first outside a German-speaking country.
The 645 sq ft store, on Brook Street in Mayfair, opened on November 30. It is Ludwig Reiter’s 17th standalone store and its first outside Austria, Switzerland and Germany, excluding two franchise stores in Beijing and Venice.
Chief executive Till Reiter said London had been selected for its first foray into an English-speaking territory because the city was growing in importance for international fashion retail.
“The UK is very competitive,” he said. “But it is good that it is competitive. We want to expand substantially in the UK and internationally and in order to do that we need to have a flagship store here.”
Reiter is planning to open more stores in the UK and will also launch a local language version of its transactional website early next year, following the launch of its German-speaking site planned for this month.
The brand, which sells men’s and women’s footwear, is already wholesaled in the UK via selected independents including Trunk Clothiers in Marylebone, London.
