Masai plots ‘significant’ UK expansion

Contemporary Danish womenswear brand The Masai Clothing Company intends to expand its UK team and stockist base under new chief executive Sune Bjerregaard.

Bjerregaard, who joined last season from IC Companys, is planning to “significantly” grow the business in the UK, which in the past six months has overtaken Denmark as the brand’s biggest region.

He is hoping to grow Masai’s stockists by between 40 and 50, from its current tally of 330, by the end of the autumn 13 selling season. A further UK sales rep and a sales manager based in the Republic of Ireland are being recruited as part of the growth plans.

UK and Ireland country manager Tim Ormiston said: “Sune brings lots of relevant experience to Masai and it is a really exciting time for the brand.”

Masai is currently sold in Fenwick department stores, excluding Bond Street, as well as via selected indies. Wholesale prices range from £18 to £50.
