Massey vows to refocus Lyle & Scott

Men’s young fashion brand Lyle & Scott will refine its collection with a renewed focus on knitwear, after appointing Carolyn Massey as head of design.

Massey joined Lyle & Scott this week. She will oversee design for both the Lyle & Scott Vintage and Heritage collections. Her first collection will be for autumn 13.

Massey said: “I think what really needs to be done is to focus on the Vintage line in particular. It needs to be a lot more considered.”

Massey added that the collection had become very large and that she would look to scale it back for autumn 13.

“I’ll pick out the key pieces that say Lyle & Scott. We need to own knitwear a lot more.”

Some of the brand’s knitwear is made in Scotland and Massey said she hoped to increase the number of garments made in the UK.

She added that she would ensure Lyle & Scott’s two lines were very distinct from one another, with Heritage aimed at a slightly older consumer. She said she would use Lyle & Scott’s archive, which would help influence the label.

There will also be a renewed focus on footwear.

Massey, who launched her eponymous menswear label in June 2006, has been a recipient of the Topshop Newgen award three times.
