Brandwatch: Spring 14’s men's youth brands - Voi Jeans, Fly53, Lacoste L!ve, Franklin & Marshall & Bench

Five names to know from the world of young fashion menswear for spring 14.

Voi Jeans

The brand’s 200 UK accountants will find an urban-influenced range that touches on sportswear, retro workwear and tropical print themes for spring 14. Animal patterns also feature as details on T-shirts and sweatshirts. “Contrasting a mixture of fabrics is generally received well by the Voi consumer,” says Sonia Javed, the brand’s menswear designer. Denim comes either coated or raw and features more worked-into lighter washes and whiskering.

Fly53

For spring 14, Fly53 offers its 100 stockists a relaxed and confident approach to casual favourites. Naturally, T-shirts are key to the offer, with tie-dye sprayed across simple silhouettes (from starbursts, splodges and even animal print-esque patterns), full-bleed photographic prints and tropical floral repeats all featuring heavily. This Hawaiian influence spills over into 70/30 cotton/poly sweats and baseball jackets, while denim shorts are bleached in the brand’s signature lightning pattern and shirts feature a bolt-style camo print.

Lacoste L!ve

For spring 14, the Lacoste L!ve collection references characters as diverse as ‘ghetto ninjas’, ‘hip hop ballers’ and ‘washed-out surfers’ to create a busy, dynamic and riotous range of birds of paradise prints, retro graphic cotton T-shirts, zip-through hooded bombers and sweatshirts. Its 50-plus stockists will see clashing tones of bright turquoise, sunshine yellow and intense orange bring a vibrancy to the sporty, street-influenced range, which includes punchy patterned knits and a full suite of footwear and accessories.

Franklin & Marshall

“Popular floral and Hawaiian prints have been incorporated into the collection, as has the new addition of faded washed fabric,” says Grant Ashdown, owner of Franklin & Marshall’s southern agent Two Agent See. The brand’s 100 stockists will find these prints pepper a spring 14 range that stays true to its collegiate sensibilities with simple T-shirt, shirt and sweatshirt silhouettes all getting the tropical treatment.

Bench

Four broad themes run through Bench’s spring 14 menswear range: colour-blocking, pattern clashing, textured textiles and technical lightweight bonded fabrics.

The latter of these are used for the collection’s outerwear and benefit from the brand’s showerproof durable water-repellent treatment. A palette of bold primary tones, neon orange and yellow, and neutral grey, green and beige lift the range. Head of menswear design Nick Barber says best-sellers with the brand’s 163 UK stockists include “geometric-inspired all-over prints, tech-inspired outerwear and garments that offer multi-functions, such as the Jacob poly hoodie”.
