Monsoon’s autumn 10 collection is awash with ethnic influences, from hippie-chic peasant dresses decorated with Islamic tile patterns to ethnic florals and paisleys.
Colour isn’t constrained to autumnal palettes, as at some rival stores: Monsoon offers emerald green, purple and tomato red.
Texture is key, with pairings of fabrics such as velvet, tweed and silk chiffon alongside chunky knits.
Metallic threading adds sparkle to embroidered necklines and shoulders, while beaded, sequin and fabric embellishment feature on top and dress chest plates.
The trend-led Fusion range offers equine prints and Breton stripes. There are also younger silhouettes such as strapless dresses and shorter hemlines.
- Ethnic-print tunic with sheer sleeves and beading
- Mesh dress with cream plunging neckline and sheer beaded skirt
- Floral satin dress in sky blue and pink
Right for the market?
Absolutely. Monsoon ticks the boxes in terms of feminine silhouettes and sticks to its signature - doing ethnic prints and embroidery better than most.
Tunics and shift dresses are versatile and can be worn with tights or leggings to offer different looks. It’s good to see great use of colour with a mixture of autumnal tones and jewel shades, and while there is a noticeable lack of black, this shouldn’t worry the Monsoon customer too much.
