Peter Saville designs range for Umbro

When: Thursday 3rd Feb’ 11

Where: Harvey Nichols- 3rd Floor

What we ate and drank: Rum Cocktails and micro food

Last Thursday night I went to Harvey Nichols for the launch of the new Umbro Modern England range. The menswear collection that was created by Umbro in collaboration with iconic Manchester designer Peter Saville.

Scanning the room as I walked in, instantly you could tell that Umbro had landed and taken over the top floor of Harvey Nichols, as we were greeted by a more casual crowd that normal.

As the room filled up and familiar faces began to greet each other, Peter Saville took to the stage with XFM DJ Gareth Brooks to introduced the range:

Saville spoke about the inspiration which lead to creation of the signature St George’s Cross pattern that features on each piece. The pattern is displayed through the repetition of four different coloured crosses.

Peter Saville comments: “England as a nation is more diverse than ever before. We have so many different influences whether in politics, religion, ethnicity, fashion, music or art. The reality of modern England is expressed in the pattern on the menswear collection as it reclaims the traditionally English St George’s cross symbol to positively represent our contemporary society.

….until10pm when it was time to call it a night. On leaving Harvey Nichols instead of the usual hailing of cabs, it was great to see most people were unlocking their bikes and peddling home. Only wish that I was multi talented enough to bike home drunk in five inch wedge shoes…

Thanks to Harvey Nichols and Umbro for a great evening.
