Quba & Co co-founder launches women’s accessories brand

The co-founder of sailing-inspired retailer Quba & Co has launched his own eponymous women’s accessories label, Will Bees Bespoke.

Will Bees departed Quba & Co, which has 15 stores in the south and south west of England, last year to focus on setting up the brand.

Will Bees Bespoke, which is manufactured in a factory in Yorkshire, consists of three styles – a purse, pouch and tote bag – which come in 200 different colours, fabrics and patterns. Retail prices start at £25 for a purse or a pouch and go up to £175 for a tote.

The brand is available to buy from his combined store and workshop space on Island Street in Salcombe, Devon, where products can also be embossed with initials. A transactional website will launch later this year.

Bees said after leaving Quba & Co he really “wanted to create a sustainable business in the town I live in” and was keen for the brand to be manufactured in Britain.

“The nature of what I’m doing – creating bags using different types of leather, internal linings and colours – I don’t think that could really be done abroad. It’s not something I could really take to China to be produced. Plus people really like made in Britain products.”

Bee was creative director of Quba & Co, which he founded in 1996 with Jim Hartley.
