As the new buying season kicks off, Drapers looks ahead with an early glimpse of the autumn 17 collections.
As autumn 17 takes shape, some key trends are already emerging from the early collections.
Increasingly, brands are incorporating technical materials into their designs: Victorinox, O’Neill, Palladium Boots and Camel Active all include performance-enhancing properties, from waterproofing to breathability, into style-led designs.
In womenswear, earthy, natural inspirations are continuing into autumn, focusing on toned-down colour palettes and floral designs in darker shades. Leaves and flowers are among popular prints, while berry tones and moss greens appearing in both menswear and womenswear.
Monochrome also retains a powerful hold on the seasonal collection, while minimal shapes and Scandinavian styling also come through from Nordic labels such as Nu Denmark and Bitte Kai Rand.
Elsewhere, brands have been looking to the past: the 1990s remains a key trend for young fashion brands such as Monkee Genes, and 1960s and 1970s shapes feature in collections from Merc and Pepe Jeans.
