The revival of the 1980s touched down firmly in womenswear for autumn 09, after its strong hold on streetwear for the past few seasons. It came through in myriad incarnations, referencing everything from the bright colours of the era’s rave kids through to the oversized tailoring seen on Stella McCartney’s blazers. Versace’s safety pin effect body con minis brought an element of punk into the mix, while other designers opted for animal print fabrics or slashed bandeau dresses as their nods to the decade.
