Asos Menswear

Spring 11

The look

Nautical, ethnic and sportswear influences are three key themes running through Asos’s spring 11 menswear offer. Breton stripes feature on racerback vests and long-sleeved tops which are teamed with plain-coloured shorts or check shirts. The palette in the nautical story is muted with sand, grey and khaki tones underpinned by sky blue and chartreuse ye llow.

Moroccan-inspired prints and colours come through on shirts and knitwear and, playing into a wider travel theme, army-print shorts and khaki-coloured jerseys also feature.

A sporty aesthetic informs layered jersey T-shirts, slouchy cotton shorts and tapered jersey bottoms. Track tops are given a fashion edge by using mesh fabrics and ripped jersey tops to make them look less pristine. A slubby green, teal and chocolate brown palette features in this story.

Key pieces

  • Moroccan-print shorts
  • Black mesh track top
  • Striped racerback vest

Right for the market?

The freshest story is the sports-inspired range with its layering and sheer panels. The nautical theme looks a tad samey and tired and although Drapers expects to see a nautical element in most spring ranges, there is little effort here to rework the theme. Moroccan-inspired prints are a strong look and have been translated well for fashion-forward men.
