Betty Barclay

The collection

The autumn 09 collection has a relaxed and informal look, with a contemporary, commercial interpretation. Key styles include feminine blouses and tunics, ruffles, pleats, and a range of modern twin-sets worn with wide pants. Skirts are either knee length, pencil or A-line, alongside slimmer silhouette trousers with a longer cardigan or tunic on top. Colours range from black with contrasts of deep purple, vibrant red and cream, taupe with violet and grey melange with dark turquoise and caramel. Jersey dresses are key sellers. Coats are featured for autumn, and the brand has nearly doubled its sales on outerwear, driven by high impact pieces in vivid colours with detail, embellishment and fur trims.

Brand Comment

Chief executive Stacey Booth

“We have focused down the collections. People want something different, something special and every piece has to stand out. Betty Barclay has huge brand loyalty and identity. Our partnerships have never been more important, and our area managers are constantly on the road, visiting shops and doing fashion days. Our Never Out of Stock (NOS) business is also doing really well as people are cutting back on forward orders and replenishing throughout the season. Knitted dresses have done really well for us in Never Out of Stock. It is a low investment and high return buying strategy as customers don’t have to hold on to stock. It is also the first time we have done coats in NOS.”
