Bubble London

The trade show season kicked off this week with kidswear exhibition Bubble London, held at Islington’s Business Design Centre.

More than 250 brands across kids’ clothing, footwear and accessories showcased their offers at the two-day event, which introduced a Homegrown section to celebrate brands that are both designed and manufactured in the UK. Buyers from kidswear indies reported that the show seemed quiet on Sunday, but some said they were impressed with the brand mix.

Poppy

Manufactured in the UK, girls’ dress brand Poppy bases its print designs on the adventures of the fictional Poppy and her dog Fred. For spring 13 its inspiration comes from walks in the countryside with a story called Catching Butterflies. Dresses are available in six different styles and three colourways – rose, ivory and sky blue. The brand has changed the fabric used for its dresses to 100% cotton sateen for spring 13 to give them a softer feel.

In terms of the mainline, aimed at boys aged two to eight, the brand’s mix of smart tailoring meets casualwear continues to evolve with the introduction of coloured denim, produced in high-quality Japanese denim. It has linked up with footwear brand DelToro for some spring 13 styles.

Riley’s exclusive prints are a key element in the collection, as is a strong nautical story featuring anchor prints and blue and white-striped garments.
