A key trend across adultwear last autumn, check was strewn across every collection at Pitti Bimbo for autumn 09, including on footwear. Surprisingly, given its more childish, Rupert the Bear associations, tartan trousers was a favourite in boyswear for streetwear and designer labels, which also used the pattern on skirts, shirts, outerwear, lining on jackets and as a trim – so strong was their desire to incorporate the print into their collections. Classic labels toned the trend down, opting for tartan predominantly on outerwear and shirts or going for muted combinations of brown, grey, blue and green, or softer gingham prints, as seen last spring.
