Chloe Jones on striking Gold at GFW

Chloe Jones, winner of the Gold award at this year’s Graduate Fashion Week, talked to Drapers about her inspiration, the designers she looks up to and what her next move will be.

What was the inspiration behind your collection?

It all started with my love for gothic architecture. I explored the topic in more detail, not just the architecture but also stained glass windows to get into the history of it all.

What was your favourite piece?

My first outfit, the cropped hoodie with the embellishment on the shoulders, is my favourite because it was my first design and it was the point which the following designs stemmed from.

How did it feel to win?

It’s a privilege just to show at Graduate Fashion Week anyway, so to be nominated and then to win is such an honour, it’s amazing. I just want to get straight into the industry and this is a great platform to be able to do that – I can’t wait.

What designers do you aspire to be like?

I love what Christopher Bailey is doing with Burberry. I love classic designs and I think it’s incredible when a garment is simple but just has little touches that make it really special.

What will you do with your £20,000 winnings?

I’m so lucky to graduate and enter into the industry with this level of support behind me. It means I can take full advantage of whatever opportunities come my way.

What is your dream job?

I’m really excited for the opportunities that lie ahead. I’m really open to all things at the moment. I’d love to design for an established brand that already has a strong identity to see how I could interpret that. But I’m also looking into buying or other areas in the industry.
