Lightweight Velvet

Coming in sumptuous berry and rich purple shades as well as anthracite and black, velvet was used on dresses, for tailoring and also on vests and unfastened cardigan-like tops. But despite the often-used lashings of embellishments, the velvet itself was surprisingly lightweight and leant itself to complex devoré patterns and held ruched and draped sections impressively to give curve to silhouettes.
