An appealing store but some strong product is soured slightly by the presence of Sale stock.
For a retailer that can sometimes play things a bit safe, French Connection has translated catwalk looks from the likes of Stella McCartney effectively for its customer. There are great takes on the sports trend by way of a sporty bomber jacket and a navy and white hi-lo hem dress with scalloped-edge short sleeves. As expected, the eveningwear offer is strong with all-over sequin styles and a standout knitted bandeau dress.
Some of the pricing structure seems slightly skewed at times: for example, a faux-leather biker jacket comes in at £87 when a casual viscose dress is more at £110. At £79, coloured jeans are on a par with similar styles at competitors Reiss and Whistles. There is a Sale in the middle of the store with discounts of up to 75%, including winter coats, all of which makes selling spring 12 product more difficult.
The store is inviting, with a mixture of freestanding displays and wall fixtures in a space that has high ceilings and good lighting. Product is merchandised attractively in suggested outfits that push multiple purchases. There is a good depth of size ratios and the product is grouped by occasion or trend, making it easy to find exactly what you’re looking for. Staff were friendly and on hand to help when trying garments on.
