GDS Footwear

Ballerina pumps, wedges and boat shoes dominated the men’s and women’s mainstream footwear line-up for spring 11 at the Düsseldorf exhibition last week.


German comfort brand Ara serves up a range of suede court shoes for spring 11, featuring trend-led details such as bows on the vamp decorated with thick studs. Smaller silver studs are used on the toe-caps of leather court shoes. For men, red stitching running across the middle upper unit of a soft leather tan training shoe with rubber soles stands out.

Anatomic & Co

Comfort brand Anatomic & Co has upped its style credentials in its latest collection. Standout designs include moccasins in bright shades of mustard, green and red, with contrast stitching. Ballerina pumps in two-tone black and white, featuring a bow on the vamp, and a tan pump with bows on the vamp also catch the eye.

Rieker offers a mix of core and new styles, including a small wedge with a zipped ankle cuff in grey and a silver cork wedge featuring a rose detail on the vamp with zip detailing. Wedge units and snakeskin add interest. With 450 UK wholesale accounts, the German brand is targeting department stores to grow its business.

Josef Seibel

Wedges with a basket finish, featuring buckle trims and white stitching, are the key women’s footwear trend at Josef Seibel for spring 11.
For men, a punch-holed leather running shoe with contrast laces and a two-tone training shoe with a recycled rubber and cork sole from its Spirit of Nature ethical range catch the eye.

Ballerina pumps are the style of choice at Gabor for spring 11, as the brand backs the style with gusto. Silver studs, stones, rose decoration and buckles feature on leather ballerina pumps with a slight heel in shades of navy, black and baby pink. Buckles and embellishment spruce up leather peep-toe wedges in white and black.

Heavenly Feet

Heavenly Feet puts its weight behind ballet pumps for the first time in spring 11. Its range of leather styles includes a gold design with a bow on the vamp and a rubber sole, and a snakeskin version with bow and crystal embellishments on the vamp. Casual chunky shoes featuring stitching and a wooden heel are also to the fore.

Showing one of the most colourful ranges at GDS, it was hard to miss Wolky’s spring 11 collection. Wolky has updated its most popular comfort sandal - a heavy wedge unit featuring a leather upper - with new shades, including electric and sky blues and soft pink. A range of moccasin styles in colourways such as lime and brown stand out.

Each design continues to include the brand’s patented “walking on air” insole, which helps air circulate in the footbed to keep feet comfortable. Marc presented one of the most fashion-led collections at GDS. Punch-holed kitten-heel sandals with bows and cut-out, buckled ankle boots have a contemporary flavour.
