Graduate Fashion Week 2014: Creative Catwalk Award

Camilla Grimes, Manchester School of Art

With judging criteria stating the winner of the Creative Catwalk Award must create a powerful, innovative and memorable impact with their collection, Grimes was certainly a worthy winner with her eye-catching range full of clash and contrast. Brash coloured furs, bold sequins and delicate semi-sheer fabrics should not have worked together but did, while punchy neon pinks somehow complemented her use of soft pastel blues. Grimes’ smart use of unusual textiles teamed with considered embellishment were original and creative, and her elevation of everyday pieces like the sporty bomber and zipped biker jean were covetable and wearable, illustrating a clear eye for commercial yet design-driven fashion.
