Graduate Fashion Week 2014: George Gold Award & Womenswear Award

Grace Weller, Bath Spa University

This stunning collection of delicately embroidered floral blooms on barely there lace dresses was the standout show, winning Weller both GFW’s top George Gold Award and the coveted Womenswear Award. The 21-year-old presented a perfectly executed range of floaty, long-line dresses layered over matching trouser sets, featuring advanced techniques and intricate detailing that offered a mature yet visionary take on modern elegance.

A promising directional designer who clearly possesses a commercial edge, Weller steps into the shoes of previous Gold Award winners such as Burberry’s Christopher Bailey, Stella McCartney and Julien Macdonald. Judges including fashion journalist Sarah Mower and George vice-president Fiona Lambert awarded Weller a £10,000 cash prize and the chance for her designs to be sold internationally by George at Asda.
