Preppy, heritage and ocean-inspired trends took centre stage in Moda’s menswear hall

Rampant Sporting

With an expanded wholesale collection for spring 12, preppy sports-inspired brand Rampant Sporting has introduced new or updated menswear styles including brushed cotton shirts in bright checks with a particular colour focus on green, blue and turquoise shades. Cotton twill shorts are also new.

Cutting the number of pieces in its range to 85 from more than 150, focusing on growing order volumes and changing suppliers means Cottonfield has been able to reduce its prices by an average of 15% for spring 12. The theme is Gone Fishing and includes fisherman-style trousers and utility-style jackets with distressed rivets. Blue and red are key colours.

Heritage brand Wolsey’s spring 12 mainline  features sport-inspired pieces including football shirts that reference one of the brand’s designs from 1918 and a strong knitwear offer, with a navy and ecru palette. The higher-priced Wolsey 1755 range has a slimmer silhouette than the mainline, with a double-breasted hopsack jacket with a cinch back and brass buttons.

Piqué polo shirts and chinos in a range of colours including several shades of blue and beige stand out at Florentino. Also new for the season is lightweight linen knitwear, such as cardigans with contrasting elbow patches made from jersey. The Spanish menswear label is embarking on a big UK expansion plan following its signing with new UK agent Egomark.

Trouser brand Gardeur has experimented with new fabrics and colours for spring 12, including a five-pocket cashmere cotton trouser available in 11 different colours including red and yellow as well as more subtle khaki and beige tones. Fair-trade denim and polyamide fabric, which keeps the wearer cool, are used in some denim styles.

Giordano Blue, a new collection for spring 12, focuses on shirts, piqué polo shirts and shorts in blue and white. Detailing comes through on contrast collar linings and turn-ups. Elsewhere, in the mainline the brand continues to offer its classic work shirts in a variety of styles and colours, including plain pink, white and blue, and striped shirts in red, blue and pink.
