Alexander McQueen’s regally themed autumn 08 collection appeared the inspiration behind eveningwear looks at Moda, with full skirted princess-style dresses, midnight blue and purple tones and jewelled bodice embellishment together creating a distinctly royal theme. Quilting and darting added further interest to skirting, while velvet and satin contrast panels created extra luxe. The most dramatic of the regal style dresses were the cutaway versions, where satin overlays were slashed to reveal layers of jewel-studded tulle. And if the Queen’s style didn’t float buyers’ boats, evening dresses also appeared more traditionally as fishtail gowns in shades of chocolate and gold.
