Contrast Textures

Autumn 12

Last autumn, brands embraced tweed, as any true English gent worth his sartorial salt would do, and for autumn 12 the fabric is still very much around. But the difference for next season is that tweed has many friends; contrasting textures, particularly using high-quality fabrications, are keeping autumn 09’s heritage trend alive, with brands taking a no-holds-barred approach to combinations. Lightweight tweed jackets with jersey panelling sit alongside washed jersey and leather contrasts on outerwear and knitwear; corduroy features both on trousers and as trims or linings; washed and oil-dyed fabrics give garments a vintage feel. Nylons continue to be important for utility jackets, which are also reinvented as lightweight blazers with three or four pockets.
