Spring 13 heralded a more upmarket direction for 75-year-old brand Baracuta under new owners WP Lavori.
Baracuta’s iconic G9 (pictured bottom, in beige) and G4 Harrington jackets have been “refined”, according to consultant Kevin Stone. “The fabric has been upgraded, we’ve gone from plastic back to metal zips and it’s lined with Coolmax fabric,” he said. As a result, retail prices have shot up from around £160 to £260. Regarding how this price rise will affect distribution, Stone added: “We still want to talk to everybody.” The jackets are available in eight colours and, according to Stone, were described by Oi Polloi’s Nigel Lawson and Steve Sanderson as the “ultimate Harrington jacket”. Former creative director of Japanese brand Beams Plus, Kenichi Kusano, also unveiled a premium Blue Label collection of military-inspired waxed jackets for the brand. Prices range from around £300 to £450.
