Elizabeth Hurley Beach Kids
Making its debut at Premier Kids, actress Elizabeth Hurley’s range of beachwear includes one- and two-piece swimsuits in large pink polka dots or geometric prints in pink and orange. The range also includes beach dresses, kaftans and hoodies. Prints are a key feature, with star, leopard and seashell designs. Girlswear is adorned with delicate leaf and floral embroideries and sequins.

Using plenty of merino wool, Bykis offers classic boys’ and girls’ styles, including dresses with Peter Pan collars, in traditional pastel pink, blue and cream. Thin stripes on babygros [ck] and cardigans, together with large bows and baubles, add interest to the classic range, while more vibrant colours including blood red, maroon, olive green and tartan feature across the fashion-led collection. The brand’s age range starts at premature babies and goes up to six-year-olds.

Week End A La Mer
As the brand name suggests, this is a nautical-inspired collection, with pink and brown stripes for girls and blue and brown stripes for boys. Week End A La Mer’s predominantly casualwear offer includes pinafore dresses and woolly cardigans in girlswear, with outerwear strong in both sexes. The brand also embraced the skiwear trend seen at trade fair Pitti Bimbo in Florence, with fur trims and a range of boys’ fleeces.

Also new to Premier Kids this season, French label Orchestra has a comprehensive offer of more than 1,200 designs for boys and girls from newborn to 14 years. One of the more trend-led brands, Orchestra served up key autumn 09 trends such as tartan trousers and skirts, velvet jackets and trousers, and wet-look ski jackets. The collection also included a strong footwear and accessories range, with shiny trainers, patent boots and large floral motifs on shoes. Purple was the colour of choice.

Little Joule’s autumn 09 collection has an impressive outerwear focus, including duffle coats, technical jackets – both waterproof and windproof – and gilets. Girlswear has a country theme, with appliquéd veggetables, horses and chickens on pink and cream, while spots, stripes and checks add colour. For boys there are plenty of rugby shirts and corduroy trousers, while wellies with stripes, spots or tractor prints round off the range.

D’Arcy Brown has upped its design credentials in autumn 09 to offer a more sophisticated look. Classic shift wool dresses in raspberry and midnight blue velvet add a touch of glamour to the range, which also features more toned down knitwear (including washable 80% wool pieces) and ditsy floral prints. D’Arcy Brown became the UK distributor this season for US occasionwear brand Frances Johnston.

Canadian brand Hatley, which is looking to open its first UK standalone store in London this year, targets kids aged from three to 16 with a nature-themed collection. For autumn 09, the brand has chosen dinosaurs and animals such as horses, dogs and sheep as a single print or embroidery for its younger ranges, and developed the designs for its older market by using multiple, but simpler, prints of the same animals. The prints are used across a casual-led collection of jerseys, corduroy trousers and hoodies.

One of the most colourful collections at Premier Kids, Me Too served up bright psychedelic, floral and animal prints in bold shades of red, purple and pink across pretty dresses and tiered skirts, with some velvet trims. Outerwear was strong for both girls and boys, with quilted, wet-look jackets, lightweight nylon versions and fur trims in both collections, targeting kids from newborns to eight years.

A true classic kidswear brand, Pretty Originals does not disappoint for autumn 09, with its traditional shades of baby pink and blue. British Country Collection
This country-themed brand manufactures in the UK and produces all of its designs and embroideries in-house. For autumn 09, country motifs include animals and tractors on casualwear for newborns to 13 years. British Country Collection also uses recycled clothing to create denim and appliqué motifs on gilets, thick woolly jumpers, jerseys and fleeces. Attention to detail is key, with tassels for horses’ tails or legs and pretty floral appliqué lining on jackets.
