Prêt à Porter

Soft tailoring, muted colours and a hint of boho were the major characteristics of the mostly safe collections from the contemporary womenswear brands at Prêt à Porter in Paris.

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac

French Riviera-meets-Americana defines Jean-Charles de Castelbajac’s spring 11 collection. Breton stripes are used on T-shirts and T-shirt dresses, and gold buttons are deployed on belted macs and cropped military jackets. Disney cartoon characters are emblazoned on separates.
Prices: ¤35 to ¤160 (£29 to £132)

Animale also opts for the folk theme, but with more emphasis on the boho look, serving up patchwork-like dresses. A crumpled fabric effect is key, with polyester and viscose mixes used on dresses, trousers and jackets, and cotton and silk mixes for more luxe pieces. The range is predominantly muted, with plenty of dusty lilac, dull silver/grey, baby blue and chambray.
Prices: average ¤47 (£39)

Fred Sabatier

Soft tailoring, easy layering and a muted palette combine to make up a folk theme for spring 11 at Fred Sabatier, with plenty of knee-length summer dresses in floral and geometric prints. Cropped linen trousers add to the easy look. Attention to detail is key, with ruching and
ruffles on dresses and jackets.
Prices: ¤20 to ¤150 (£16 to £123)

Animale’s older sister brand ADC also offers patchwork dresses and the crumpled effect but with less vigour. Instead, its focus is on volume and silhouette, with inverted, voluminous pockets on dresses and skirts, A-line tops and bubble-hem skirts. Pretty prints that mix geometric shapes with delicate florals stand out in this more directional and grown-up collection.
Prices: average ¤55 (£45)

Fleur de Sel

Mirroring one of autumn 10’s important trends, minimalism is the order of the day at Fleur de Sel for spring 11. White linen dresses and trousers are accessorised with cropped cardigans or loose jackets to create a relaxed tailored collection focused on layering and on a muted palette of white, grey and putty.
Prices: average ¤35 (£29)

Carole Richard

With a heavy focus on femininity for spring 11, Carole Richard’s body-con acrylic dresses sit alongside polyester shift dresses with faux leather or lace panels. Belted jackets, cropped linen and cotton trousers also feature. As with many brands showing at Prêt à Porter this season, the colour palette is largely muted.
